Icy conditions continue today in The Landings and across Chatham County. Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) asks people to remain inside and off the roads unless it is necessary to go out.
At it’s 9 a.m. Weather Briefing, CEMA reported the Diamond Causeway Bridge is open but in poor condition due to ice and snow refreezing overnight. CEMA officials warn against expecting a significant amount of snow and ice melt today, as temperatures won’t get above freezing for more than a few hours. There is a better chance for snow and ice to start melting tomorrow (January 24) as the forecast calls for temperatures in the 40s and less cloud coverage than we will see today. It is important to note, that any snow and ice melt today likely will refreeze overnight impacting travel tomorrow (January 24).
Due to the icy conditions on roads and bridges across Chatham and surrounding counties making it impossible for staff to travel safely to work, TLA will remain closed to walk-in traffic today (January 23). This includes the Public Works and Marinas offices. Landings Security will remain open 24/7. Residents and vendors still can conduct business online and by phone. You can reach staff members directly or email webmaster@landings.org. At the time of this email, no decisions have been made regarding TLA’s office schedule for tomorrow, as we continue monitoring the weather and CEMA recommendations.
Please stay safe and warm, and follow Chatham Emergency Management Agency for CEMA Alerts.
