If you plan to do some Black Friday shopping at Tanger Outlets in Pooler, be sure to take along your retired running shoes (any brand is accepted) so that Nike can give them a second life. The Nike store in Pooler is one of Nike’s 292 stores with a Reuse-A-Shoe bin. Additional sites are located across North America and Europe.
Nike believes that waste should not be wasted, and in 1993, Nike employee Steve Potter began shredding old Nikes and turning them into reusable materials. From this vision Reuse-A-Shoe was born, a sneaker recycling program that collects used footwear from consumers and transforms them into Nike Grind, a suite of high-performance materials made from recycled footwear and manufacturing scrap.
Nike Grind materials are used to transform community spaces including basketball courts, play top surfaces, running tracks, and more. Nike even has used Grind in collaboration with artists it supports, including at the NikeLab Chicago Re-Creation Center c/o Virgil Abloh.
