During the resident input portion of the March 25 Board Meeting, Landings resident Pat Breslin addressed the Board on behalf of a group of his neighbors (some of whom attended the meeting), regarding the proposed Green Island Road path. The proposed path would run parallel to the road and allow for pedestrian and bicyclist traffic.
The Landings Association’s Board and Staff have shared with Chatham County concerns regarding the potential impacts this path could have on The Landings. Some of the potential impacts are listed below.
Impacts to The Landings
- The pathway runs between Green Island Road and the backyards of many residents.
- There are two entrances into the Landings community which will be affected — one entering into Moon River Landing and the other into Oakridge.
- In addition to no trespassing signs which currently exist, the need for new safety and security precautions, including gates, will need to be considered, to address the possibility of non-resident golf carts, walkers, and cyclists entering The Landings. The potential then exists for the need for RFIDs on all golf carts to enter the pathways if there are gates. The financial costs pertaining to these new measures are being analyzed and could be substantial.
- The termination point of the path is at the intersection in front of the entrance to the Main Gate. The County has indicated their plans to install a traffic signal at that location with a right turn lane from Diamond Causeway onto Green Island Road. Consideration of a traffic circle is not being entertained currently. The consequences of a traffic signal impacting ingress, egress, golf carts, bicycles, and pedestrians, at that intersection are unknown.
Residents are reminded that The Landings Association is restricted in what actions it can take, as we have no decision-making authority over Chatham County, nor do we have any authority or control of development outside our gates. We encourage everyone to share your comments and concerns with elected County officials and their staff. Your personal input is most impactful in terms of advising the County of your thoughts, desires, and expectations.
