Please note that a brief synopsis is provided for pertinent incidents that Security responds to during the previous week. All incidents are not covered in the weekly recap. Statistics for incident reports are provided below.

Hit and Run Accident

On Sunday, September 21, Landings Security and Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) responded to a hit and run accident. A witness to the incident stated that he was exiting the Deer Creek/Village Gate and witnessed a vehicle run through the entry gate, so he followed the vehicle into the community. Once the vehicle had stopped, the witness made contact with the driver who appeared intoxicated. While waiting for CCPD to arrive, the driver returned to his vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. However, due to damages to the vehicle, he was unable to leave, and instead, entered the residence where he was parked. The man refused to answer the door upon CCPD’s arrival. A tow truck was contacted to remove the vehicle from the scene. It is believed that the driver of the vehicle also was involved in a hit and run accident on the Skidaway Narrows bridge. The damage to the Deer Creek/Village Gate is estimated at $1,241.65. Warrants were issued for the resident’s arrest and CCPD is pursuing applicable criminal charges.

Theft

On Sunday, September 21, Landings Security responded to Mad Turkey Crossing for a report of a theft. The resident advised that his wife had taken their dog for a walk near the Marsh Tower and inadvertently left the keys inside the golf cart at that time. After approximately 20 to 30 minutes, she realized the keys were missing. The resident advised that they would return to the Marsh Tower the following morning to look for the keys. They did not want to involve CCPD.

Suspicious Incidents

On Wednesday, September 17, Landings Security responded to Priest Landing Drive and Harbor View Court for a report of a man harassing a woman and following her down the street. The caller was unable to provide a description of the individual. The responding Officer patrolled the area and surrounding areas with negative results, and no other similar reports were received.

On Friday, September 19, Landings Security received a call from a resident on Caisson Crossing regarding a suspicious person. The caller advised that she had received a notification from her doorbell camera about movement near her front door. Upon viewing the video, she witnessed a male subject approach her door and hesitate before ringing the doorbell. He then walked away from the door and stood at the edge of her driveway before waving towards the home and walking away from the property. The caller advised that she did not recognize the man nor was she expecting any guests. It is unknown who the individual was.

Also on Friday, September 19, a resident on Cavan Lane contacted Landings Security to report a similar situation. She advised that an unknown male subject approached her door and rang the doorbell. She then observed him approach her vehicle and look inside, but he did not attempt to open the vehicle. He then returned to his vehicle which was parked in her driveway and proceeded to leave the property. The caller stated that she did not recognize the man and was not expecting any guests. The man did not match the description of the individual from the incident on Caisson Crossing. However, Security was able to identify the individual as an auto detailer who services multiple residents in the community. Security spoke with the man who advised he was looking for an address on Carlow Lane. Security verified that he was a registered guest at the address on Carlow Lane and provided an update to the resident on Cavan Lane.
