Following are some things you need to know as you prepare to return to The Landings.
Skidaway Narrows Bridge: The Skidaway Narrows Bridge has been inspected. As part of normal protocol after a major weather event like Hurricane Matthew, all bridges must be inspected for damage by Georgia Department of Transportation.
Entering The Community – As you are approaching the entrance of The Landings, the traffic lights are not working, as of this email. Please treat all inoperable traffic lights as four-way stops and approach carefully. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department (SCMPD) officers will be posted as some intersections throughout Chatham County.
Access Control
The Main Gate barcode reader currently is not operational. Repairs are underway. In the meantime, residents are being routed through the guest lane. When entering the Main Gate, be prepared to show identification or give your PIN number. Due to the large number of returning residents, please be patient and expect delays
Gates
As of this writing, the Oakridge, Deer Creek McWhorter, and Moon River gates are operational. The Moon River Landing and North gate are not operational at this time, but repairs should be completed tomorrow (October 10).
If for any reason an automated gate within The Landings does not work, please go to the Main Gate for access or assistance. Remember, if a gate does not have power, its accompanying callbox also will be inoperable.
Vendors
All vendors and guests must be preauthorized through your specific address. They must enter through the Main Gate and show identification.
Security
Landings Security has continued access management and patrols on the island, even throughout the hurricane. Today (October 9) identification and PIN numbers were required at the Main Gate to enter the community. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department has increased their patrols throughout The Landings. The Landings is following the County’s curfew of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The National Guard has periodically been patrolling The Landings, and SCMPD has increased patrols.
Gas Leaks
As you move about the community, please understand there have been 25 gas leaks, with13 resolved. If your notice a gas light, please call Atlanta Gas Light (1-800-427-5463, option 1).
Streets
The Public Works Department with assistance from Southside Fire Department has been diligently clearing roads of numerous fallen trees and blowing debris from the roadways. The cleared roads include Wiley Bottom, Priest Landing, Bartram (North and South), and Landings Way (North and South), Deer Creek, Monastery, Waterside, Sedgewater (partial), and Hasleiters Retreat.
Keep in mind, many secondary roads may not yet have been cleared, and you may encounter obstacles as you enter your home.
Water
There is no need for a boil water at this time unless the customer experiences loss of water. The larger concern is that we are still operating with very limited sanitary sewer facilities that are fully functional. This will not return to 100 percent until power is restored. Customers should be very sparing with water use, and if toilets and drains are slow to drain, stop using them immediately and call Utilities, Inc.
Power
Tomorrow morning (October 10), Georgia Power will be sending a large crew of contractors to make overhead repairs within The Landings. Georgia Power staff will address underground repairs. They say they hope to have power restored for a number of Landings customers some time tomorrow.

We encourage residents to remain on their property or assist with general cleanup on their particular side street. The main streets have several work crews, and for safety reasons, residents are discouraged from taking bike rides and leisurely walks.
As previously mentioned, residents who are not on property are strongly encouraged to give us a day or two to get back on our feet. Please stay where you are, sheltered safely in place.
Several gas leaks have been reported to Security, and as of today (Sunday 3/9), gas company crews are on the Island resolving same.
Staffing: Once again, I have been personally impressed with several of our team members. A large majority of the Public Works crews and several Security Staff members have – once again – responded to the call for help. Others have continued to work and assist our efforts while safely tucked away in Atlanta and other parts of Georgia. The true team leaders and dedicated employees excel in these times of needs, and their efforts should be appropriately recognized. Thanks to so many residents for realizing their dedication and contributions. The chicken a resident dropped by the gate yesterday was truly a blessing. My troops were absolutely overjoyed, and this and other gestures of appreciation and kindness show our true community spirit!
We are in the process of re-opening all the gates. It was by design that we were requiring residents to enter through only a select few gates and requesting identification and Personal Identification Numbers. Again, to the residents who know your PIN and had your ID ready, “Thank you!”
Southside Fire Department arrived back on the Island at about 2:00 pm today (10/9) and even assisted with clearing roads. To the SSFD employees actually here and on the ground, “Thank you!” Again, truly dedicated employees that should be recognized.
As you can see, I am truly thankful to a lot of people. Difficult times truly reveal a person’s true character. Those who place others first are the true heroes in my book; during the last 48 hours, I have seen hundreds…residents, employees, vendors, and even my own family.
We have a long way to go, and your patience, understanding, and most of all, your ability to put someone else above your needs and desires will be needed in the days to come.
I am honored to be your partner.
