SKIDAWAY AUDUBON – MICROPLASTICS

October 16, 2025 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

At its October 16 meeting, Skidaway Audubon will welcome Dr. Jay Brandes of University of Georgia’s Skidaway Institute of Oceanography who will discuss the widespread problem of plastic pollution, especially microplastics, in the marine environment. Dr Brandes has degrees in chemistry and oceanography from Humboldt State University and received his masters and Ph.D. from the University of Washington. He and his team have conducted extensive research along the Georgia coast to investigate this important issue. Recent research has included the examination of micro-plastics contamination in organisms such as oysters. Come learn about the scope of this mounting problem, and its many causes, as well as some possible solutions.

The meeting will be at 4 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. All are welcome to attend. Admission is free for members of Friends of Skidaway Audubon (FOSA), and $5 for guests, payable at the door. Attendees are asked to pre-register online at SkidawayAudubon.org. For questions, contact fosa@skidawayaudubon.org.
