Jan 17, 2025 | Archived Emails

TLA staff participated in Chatham Emergency Management Agency’s (CEMA) Winter Weather Briefing this morning (January 17).

CEMA shared that its team is in the monitoring phase of the cold weather expected to impact our area next week. The greatest impact is expected Tuesday to Wednesday (January 21 to 22) with cold temperatures and record lows in the area of Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport. There is a possibility of snow, rain, or sleet. However, at the time of this briefing, CEMA was uncertain, exactly which our area will get.

With the minor to moderate weather conditions expected, area residents are encouraged to monitor the weather and prepare now by ensuring all vehicles are fueled, food and water are stocked should the power go out or pipes freeze, and have enough blankets and other warm items handy.

Remember, bridges may ice and be closed by Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) or municipalities if conditions warrant.

At the time of the briefing, Savannah-Chatham County Public School System officials shared they would make a decision regarding school closures by 2 p.m. Monday.
