Mayor Johnson’s leadership and influence extend well beyond Savannah in various national and local roles, as well as commitment and service to youth development, children, and families. Johnson’s influence extends nationally as 2nd Vice President of the National League of Cities, 1st Vice President of the African American Mayors Association, and member of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. Locally, he has championed youth leadership for more than 30 years as Director of the Chatham County Youth Commission, co-founding the Savannah Youth Council in 2004.
A former talk show host, political commentator, and columnist, he is also a certified HR and law enforcement professional, Leadership Georgia alumnus, and a four-time honoree on Georgia Trend’s 100 Most Influential Georgians list. Since 2020, he has served as one of Georgia’s sixteen Presidential Electors.
