Living in The Landings offers natural beauty, great neighbors, and easy access to useful information. Recently, The Landings Association held a Senior Staff Drop-in attended by 23 members who asked questions and gave feedback. Key questions and answers, as well as topics from the session are listed below.
Your Association is committed to continuous improvement and values member feedback. You always can email us (webmaster@landings.org), make an appointment to chat with one of our staff members, or join us for the next Senior Staff Drop-in set for October 21 from 2 to 3 p.m. in The Landings Association’s Conference Room (600 Landings Way).
- Can neighbors use the lagoon along the Oakridge Course for golf ball target practice? No, lagoons owned by The Landings Golf & Athletic Club (LGAC) are not to be used for golf ball target practice. The Club has four practice facilities designed for golf practice – for member use only. For more information, please call LGAC (912-598-8050).
- Does The Landings Golf & Athletic Club (LGAC) have the same Rules as TLA regarding fishing in lagoons? No. TLA controls common property, and LGAC controls Club property. Fishing from Club property, even when the golf course is closed, is prohibited. Club members may join The Landings Anglers Club, which does allow for limited fishing access from Club property on designated days; however, you must be a golf member to join the Anglers program. For more information regarding Club property, please call LGAC (912-598-8050).
- Can TLA force cyclist to use the roadways instead of the community paths? No. If you see cyclists violating an Association Rule, such as riding more than two abreast, please report the issue to Landings Security (912-598-1982, Option 2).
- What should I do if I see my neighbors parking along the road instead of in their driveways? Please report the issue to Landings Security (912-598-1982, Option 2).
- Is there a limit on the number of vehicles residents in The Landings are allowed to have? No.
- Are contractors required to take yard debris with them? No. Although they should do so, there is no Commercial Rule regarding contractors disposing of yard debris, However, residents are responsible for properly disposing of the debris if their contractors fail to do so.
- Can the deteriorating chairs at Landings Harbor Marina Tiki Bar be replaced along with the picnic table that once was in the grassy area at Delegal Creek Marina. Yes. TLA will look into securing some polywood alternatives for this furniture that is more suitable than the previous wooden items and is for outdoor, waterside environments.
- Can TLA mandate a Rule for battery-powered mowing equipment and blowers. No. Although the adoption of such a Rule may be feasible in another five to seven year, the technology for battery powered tools continues to evolve in an effort to make them better able to stand up to the rigors of use without constant recharging.
- Can TLA explain the recent Georgia Power Outages in the Oakridge area of the community. No. Georgia Power invested $2.7 million in Skidaway Island upgrades over the past year, including tree trimming and asset replacement, to reduce outages. The company is addressing ongoing technical issues with underground lines, particularly where water intrusion occurs. TLA will keep communicating with Georgia Power about community electrical needs. However, residents should report issues directly, as TLA does not have decision-making authority over Georgia Power, and the company will not discuss resident account information with TLA.
- Safety on roads and community paths – The Landings has 30 miles (22 paved) of beautiful, winding, tree-lined, community paths that we all use to get to our destination, or just to enjoy a ride. But the paths are busy, and the curves and trees can make it difficult to see who is coming in the other direction. It’s natural to want to remain on the pavement, but most paths are only eight feet wide, which can make a tight fit for a golf cart and a bicycle. The Landings Association’s Rules & Regulations read that “Cyclists shall always be given the right-of-way by golf carts on the path, and golf cart drivers must provide at least three feet of total distance when passing cyclists.” (Section H:3 Community Paths). - Deer – TLA operates a Deer Management Program, working with our local representative of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, to safely remove as many deer as possible. Click here to learn more.
- Electric Vehicles in The Landings – Did you know that electric vehicles such as motorized scooters and segways are not allowed on community paths and trails in The Landings, and violating this rule could result in fines up to $100. Click here to learn more.
- Cell Coverage Challenges and Solutions – Residents and visitors on the south end of the island have long reported persistent problems with cell coverage, particularly for AT&T customers. While Wi-Fi calling can help fill some gaps, it’s not a holistic solution for those who rely on their mobile network for outdoor use, emergency calls, or travel around the island. - Permitting and Private Property Maintenance Standards (PPMS) – Are you unsure of how to submit a permit to have your home repainted? Do you want to make sure the PPMS inspection team knows about a home in the community that is not looking it’s best? Email the Community Development Department (cdd@landings.org) to have your questions answered or to let the team know your concerns.
