Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) and The Landings Association remain in Opcon 4, the enhanced monitoring phase, as we track the movements of Tropical Storm Idalia.
At its morning briefing today (August 28), CEMA shared that Tropical Storm Idalia is expected to become a major hurricane before it reaches Florida’s Gulf coast.
Our area should expect heavy rains and winds. There is the potential for localized flooding, power outages, and isolated tornados. TLA Public Works has begun storm preparation, including checking lagoon water valves to release water if needed, and double-checking lighting in case limbs come down in the dark. The Marinas are working to secure operations as well.
We will continue to provide periodic updates on this weather event as more details become available.
