Here are updates since our noon email to the community:
Community Paths/Trails
Please stay off the Community Paths/Trails (golf cart paths). The Landings Association has NOT had a chance to inspect or clear these trails at this time, as the focus has been on streets. There is a real danger of falling and/or fallen debris. Use at your own risk.
Main Gate Barcode Reader Restored
The barcorde reader at the Main Gate now is active again.
Water
There has been some questions from residents about the water supply. The water IS safe to drink in The Landings. Please see more details further down.
REPEAT ITEMS FROM THE 2 P.M. UPDATE:
Yard Debris Disposal
As many of you arrive back into the community and begin storm cleanup in and around your home, please understand that The Landings Association’s first and primary job is to clear the roadways and to make sure that our storm water system is continuing to operate properly.
In order to ensure that our storm water system continues to be fully operational, any and all yard debris/logs/trees removed from your property MUST NOT be stacked on the roads and/or curbs. Our storm water system cannot handle this type of debris along our roadways and curbs, and that would result in extreme flooding in the event debris is discarded in this manner. Any and all landscaping and tree service contractors caught leaving debris along the curbs and roadways will be subject to severe fines.
Thank you for your assistance and patience as we continue to restore our community.
Food Disposal
Because the power has been off in The Landings for the past few days, the food in your refrigerator and freezer will be spoiled and should not be used.
Please do not dispose of any food in your garbage disposal. Due to the power outage, Utilities, Inc. of Georgia (UIG) must manually pump down all sanitary sewer lift stations. As more residents return to The Landings, the stress on the system is increased until power is restored and will create problems with timely pump down, further exacerbating the issue.
Please double bag the food and discard it with household trash. Secure the trash can lids to prevent raccoons or other animals from ripping the bags open. There is no centralized facility for collecting such food waste.
TLA Phone Lines
Our phone system normally relies on Comcast for our bandwidth. Comcast has an outage in our area that they hope to fix by 9 p.m. tomorrow (October 11).
Therefore, the Association has switched over our services to a secondary provider in the interim. This means that phone calls to the Association are not the best quality. We continue to urge residents to pre-authorize guest online or via the GateAccess app.
Login to www.GateAccess.Net. Remember, the Community Code is TLA. The Username is the PRIMARY email address The Landings Association has on file for you, and the Password is your PIN.
FROM THE NOON UPDATE:
Entering the Community
As you are approaching the entrance of The Landings, the traffic lights are not working, as of this email. Please treat all inoperable traffic lights as four-way stops and approach carefully. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department (SCMPD) officers will be posted at some intersections throughout Chatham County.
Gates
All gates, except for Marshview Landing, are fully operational. We are still working to address the Marshview Landing gate. Please be aware that this status is extremely fluid and may change shortly.
If for any reason an automated gate within The Landings does not work, please go to the Main Gate for access or assistance as the call boxes at gates may also be inoperable.
Vendors
All vendors and guests must be preauthorized to your specific address. They must enter through the Main Gate and show identification.
Security
Landings Security has continued access management and patrols on the island, even throughout the hurricane. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department has increased their patrols throughout The Landings. The Landings is following the County’s curfew of 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
The National Guard has periodically been patrolling The Landings, and SCMPD has increased patrols.
Gas Leaks
If you notice a gas leak, please call Atlanta Gas Light (1-800-427-5463, option 1).
Most residents with gas appliances (stove, water heaters, etc.) will likely have automatic starters that rely on electricity to work. Until power is restored, your gas appliances will not operate. If your appliances do not work after power has been restored, please call Atlanta Gas at the 24-hour number above.
Streets
The Association Public Works Department has been diligently clearing roads of numerous fallen trees and blowing the debris from the roadways. The major thoroughfares have been cleared.
Please do not park on streets that have not been cleared! If your street has not been cleared and you cannot get to your driveway, please park on the closest major road that has already been cleared. Cars parked on streets not cleared are subject to damage and significantly hinder our progress in clearing the street.
The progression for clearing the streets is as follows:
1. Major streets (completed)
2. Loop streets (underway)
3. Longest dead-end streets (underway)
4. Hammer heads
5. Cul-de-sacs
We appreciate your patience as this process continues.
Water
There is no need for a boil water at this time unless you experience loss of water. The larger concern is that we are still operating with very limited sanitary sewer facilities that are fully functional. This will not return to 100 percent until power is restored. Customers should be very sparing with water use, and if toilets and drains are slow to drain, stop using them immediately and call Utilities, Inc.
Skidaway Island Power Outage Update
Georgia Power crews hope to finish repairing the transmission lines to Skidaway Island by the end of today (October 10). Georgia Power says that means the best case scenario is that some areas of Skidaway MAY have power sometime tomorrow (October 11). There is not a guaranteed completion time, as repair work could take longer than expected.
Damage to Homes
The Landings Association Community Development staff has begun surveying the community and posting permits for restoration and repair of damaged homes to assist residents. Both a lavender-colored permit and letter will be provided to assist in expediting repairs so that it is unnecessary to contact TLA for approval.
The Landings Association Administration offices will be open tomorrow (October 11). However, we encourage you to defer nonessential business, as our focus will be on Hurricane Matthew restoration efforts.
We will continue to provide updates as they become available. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
